The Adelphian Club of Pensacola High School was a social organization that brought young ladies together for various events such as dances, parties, etc. They also came together to wrap and package "surgical dressings" that were sent off to the Pacific and European combat theaters for our troops. The club also raised and donated money to the Red Cross to be distributed to worthy causes. Whether or not club was connected to the 1840 Adelphian Society will probably never be known. But WWII was just beginning and many of the girls of the graduation classes of 1940-1945 took part in the festivities. There were other clubs at PHS, one being a men's organization called the Philomen Club, which was both social and academic in nature. But all are long gone now! How long they lasted after the war is anybody's guess. Sadly, few of these ladies are still with us today but many of their sons and daughters as well as their grandchildren and great grandchildren are! Perhaps, they would like to see their mothers and/or grandmothers as they really were in a more innocent time!
