US Army PFC George Winslow was born in Milton, Santa Rosa County, Florida on December 16, 1908. At this point there is too little information in reference to his parents or his upbringing. We do know that by 1940, he was working for Captain Bennie Edmundson whose office was on South Palafox Street while living at a general delivery address. We also know that he enlisted in the US Army on October 30, 1943 and was sent to Camp Blanding, Florida for processing and orientation. After basic training he was assigned to an engineer battalion however we do not know which one.
At some point in time his unit was sent overseas and was killed or died of other causes on January 30, 1945. His death is listed as (DNB or Died Non Battle), which encompasses any death other than combat related. He was buried in the Henri-Chapelle Military Cemetery in Plombières, Belgium. He was brought home and buried in the National Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama on December 9, 1947.
