175. The Paradise Beach Hotel, Lillian Bridge 1942

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

The Paradise Beach Hotel first appeared in the Pensacola city directories in 1942 although it was around in the 1930's to the 1960's. It was renowned for its fried chicken and its dancing and was owned at one time by Felix Philip and Dorothy Sadowski. Philip was born on July 10, 1896 in Michigan where he married Dorothy Josephine Krajewski in 1916 in Detroit. He and Dorothy left their home in Grosse Point Park, Michigan and came to Pensacola to enter the resort business. His assistant manager was his son Richard Melvin Sadowski and they advertised to have "the only naturally shaded beach in America."

They also billed themselves as having the "Tropical Room Cocktail Lounge" and "Dancing Every Night by Orchestra." It was located off Lillian Highway at the Lillian Bridge directly on Perdido Bay. By 1945, he was selling thirty of the brick cottages in the area. He and Dorothy surfaced again in Miami Beach, Florida in the 1950's and passed away on March 22, 1977. He was buried in the Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Miami where he was joined in death by Dorothy in 1979. In the meantime, time ran its course and the old hotel was torn down in the 1960's and is no longer.
