65. Getting to Work at Pensacola NAS during WWII

Updated: Apr 2, 2022

As Pensacola is planning on bringing in a new ferry system, few citizens realize we've had ferries here before. Once upon a time, a ferry docked at the foot of Palafox Street conducting cars and citizens to Gulf Breeze. But during WWII, getting military personnel and civilians to and from the Naval Air Station was upmost importance. Oddly, they used ferries throughout most of the war and only in 1945 did they cut loose funding for a permanent bridge from the foot of Sunset Boulevard at Navy Point to the NAS peninsular.
